What:  “The Power of Women and Girls Telling Their Own Story

When:  Thursday, October 29th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM (Event begins at 7:00 PM  and program will start at 7:30 PM sharp - please arrive at 7 PM to mingle, eat and drink delicious teas made by sesapure)!

Where:  Waller Ballroom (700 E. 6th Street, Austin TX)

With our special guests: Magatte Wade (Founder of Tiossan), Elizabeth Avellán (cofounder of Troublemaker Studios and producer of films including: Sin City, Machete, the Spy Kids series, and more), Khalida Brohi, founder of Sughar Empowerment Foundation and TEDGlobal Speaker & Alexis Jones, founder of I AM THAT GIRL & ProtectHer, internationally recognized speaker, author and activist.

Magatte Wade looks forward to joining the discussion and sharing her own personal story as a inspiring female entrepreneur from Senegal. She is the Founder and CEO of Tiossan, a luxury organic skin-care company which creates products based on traditional Sengalese skin care recipes. 

 

 

Elizabeth Avellan, a tremendous advocate and supporter of Connecther, will discuss the power of women and girls telling their own story, with a particular focus on the film industry and her journey. 

 

 

Khalida runs Sughar Empowerment Foundation, a Connecther project-partner that works to reduce endemic violence against women at substantial personal risk.  Khalida recently spoke at TEDGlobal.  She says, "Not doing this work would kill me. Doing this work would keep me alive."  Khalida looks forward to sharing her story!

 

 

Leveraging her entertainment background as a vehicle to empower youth, Alexis Jones looks forward to sharing her experience in producing "A Brave Heart, The Lizzie Velasquez Story" and the improtance of providing a platform for women and girls to tell their own stories.

 

Special performance by our local Austin musical guest:  Jess Williamson

 

Ticket info & RSVP:  Ticket Price is $125 per person.  Limited tickets available.  

To purchase your ticket go to donate page, select "Support the Connecther General Fund" and select donation amount (minimum $125 per person - we are grateful for additional donations)!  Once your donation is processed you will be added to attendee list!  *The fair market value of this event is $25 per person, please deduct that amount from your donation for tax purposes.  

Dress Code:  Dress is Smart Casual!

Parking:  There should be plenty of parking around the venue OR you can park at the Convention Center Parking Garage on 5th & Red River - just a block and 1/2 away (come out on the north side of the garage and take a right, walk less than half a block to Sabine, and take Sabine to 6th)!
