FGM is a cultural norm for many. Throughout the course of this project, we've learned that dismantling this system against women will be hard due to the fact that it is so deeply embeded in the culture and generation. According to the United Nations Human Rights, 95% of Guinean girls have undergone FGM, many before the age of 10. FGM doesn't look at ethnicity, religion, or region, rather it is done as a cultural norm. Here we are given two women's own personal recounts of their experiences. We then see the cultural beliefs as to why this practice is carried out to this day.
