Orphan Sponsorship

Takengon, Aceh, Indonesia

Our first project started over 10 years ago with 50 orphans who are survivors of the deadliest Tsunami in recorded history. We are currently sponsoring 150 orphans and our goal is to get to 200 orphans. For $30/month, we feed, clothe and educate a child. We send many volunteers to teach and interact with the children. As we are 100% volunteer run organization, all of the donation goes towards our orphans. Please visit our website to learn more about this and projects in other countries.

Background

The tsunami of 2004 changed the life of Dian Alyan, the founder, forever.  She lost 40 relatives and watched her hometown shattered into pieces.  Her personal loss and watching the sufferings of thousands compelled her to start GiveLight with the goal of caring for the most vulnerable segment the population, the orphans.

Today Givelight supports close to 900 orphans in 8 countries, including Haiti, Iraq and most recently the Bay Area.  There are tremendous needs everywhere and we prioritize on orphans who are victims of natural disasters and wars.

Our goal is to grow our work and help 3000 orphans in 10 countries by next year.  Looking at the past 5 years, we are confident that with hard work, sincerity and the generosity of our supporters, we can achieve this goal.
