You can help us educate-a-school for three years!

ISSUE:

The education system in Pakistan, the world’s sixth largest country, is broken:

25 million children are out-of-school, including 7 million at the primary school level. Only two out of every 10 children reach the fifth grade. National literacy is 57 percent; and female literacy is 45 percent.

Educate-a-school for 3 Years!

Karachi, Pakistan

Help us secure tuition for children's education in Pakistan for three years!

The Citizens Foundation deliberately sets up schools in the slum areas where there is acute poverty and the income level is so low that the families can not afford education for their kids. The schools impart free education and actually help the whole family as well. They teach hygiene and give uniform and books. Schools start at primary and go up to secondary school. Girls make up at least 50 % of each classroom! The curriculum is the same as what is imparted in the better schools and that is why TCF has their graduating kids going to the top institutions of Pakistan and some have also gone abroad with scholarships arranged by TCF.

An endowment fund has been set up to support The Austin School of Knowledge, but funds are consistently needed to pay for the education of the students and for the books, the teachers and general administration costs.

Project Milestones

Our mission is to introduce the Educate a Child Program so that we can help support the ongoing needs of students for their entire schooling. This will allow families to send their children into TCF schools worry free rather than wondering if there will still be an opportunity from one year to the next.  We strongly believe that quality education is the only way to provide a better future for the people of Pakistan.

As of 2013 TCF has:

910 schools in 67 towns and cities

126,00 enrolled students

6,300 teachers with over 9,000 employees

The TCF Austin chapter wants to continue to increase our efforts for this powerful organization.

In 2014 - 2015, we hope to:

-educate as many children as possible through our Educate a Child Initiative

-help TCF's efforts in the adoption of and running of campuses on a yearly basis

-help TCF's efforts in gathering running cost for existing schools

-raise awareness for TCF in our local community

Background

The Citizens Foundation is one of Pakistan's largest non-profit organizations committed to education and is recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative. With 5 schools in Karachi in 1995 and the vision of a few concerned private citizens, TCF now runs 910 schools with 126,000 students nationwide.

The vision of TCF is to remove barriers of class and privilege and to make the citizens of Pakistan Agents of Positive Change. We believe that access to basic education is the right of each individual and not a privilege. Apart from following the regular curriculum, we focus on the character building of students to equip them with high moral values and confidence. Each of our schools must enroll 50% girls and have 100% female faculty.

A result of all of this incredible work, TCF has been named the winner of the 2013 Skoll Award for Social Entreprenuership.
