Send 35 Afghan Girls to School!!

Herat and Kabul, Afghanistan

Afghanistan does not have enough public schools for all children to attend, and even in areas where public schools do exist, they do often not offer a high quality education. To address this need, Dr. Sakena Yacoobi founded 4 private schools, 2 in Herat and 2 in Kabul. Connecther is hoping to provide 35 Afghan girls with scholarships to attend these private schools, which will provide the girls with a high quality education and change the course of their life for the better.

Project Milestones

  • Girls in need will be identified and enrolled in four private schools, two in Herat Province and two in Kabul Province.
  • The girls will receive a high quality education.
  • After completing one year of school in 2017/18, these girls will be able to go on and graduate high school, joining the 12.6% of Afghan women who are literate and educated. Their children will be ten times more likely to attend school. These girls will become women with skills that will help them to earn an income to help their families.

Our partner, Creating Hope International (CHI) has been supporting projects in Afghanistan since 1996, working with the Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) to reach over 12 million Afghans, 70% of whom are women. In that time, AIL has worked with Afghan communities to support more than 335 Learning Centers. AIL begins these centers at the request of the community, and works with the communities to meet their needs.

One of these Centers wanted to become a school educating 1st through 12th grade students during the day and women in the village after school. AIL and Dr. Yacoobi helped the center to become a private school.

This village is proud of their private school. There are 99 students attending this school. Currently every student is asked to pay what they can, but many of the students come from poor families, leaving them unable to pay.

The funds from this project will be used to support the education of the female students at this school, as well as three other private schools established by Dr. Yacoobi with assistance and training from CHI and AIL.
