Education for Orphans in Afghanistan
Fund life skills classes for orphaned girls in Afghanistan.
In 2010 the Afghan government asked Dr. Sakena Yacoobi, founder of the Afghan Institute for Learning, to provide health services at one of its orphanages. When she went there, she was shocked to discover that many of the children had never held a book or a pencil. Now the institute offers a variety of classes for girls at the orphanage, including health education, tailoring, computer skills, and four levels of English. Yacoobi has seen how these classes can transform girls’ lives, giving them the confidence they need to succeed in life.
