Women's Global Empowerment Fund

WGEF provides women with the framework necessary to create viable opportunities for themselves and their families. Through grassroots strategies, marginalized women are given the tools necessary to alleviate poverty, thus facilitating sustainable development and empowerment. Agricultural Union Project

Gulu, Uganda

Gulu Women's Agricultural Union is working towards creating a self-sustaining Women's agricultural union among women farmers and farm workers in the WGEF program and the northern region of Uganda. Women agricultural workers have formed a union, elected an executive committee, maintained the required signatures, under Ugandan law, to officially have an agricultural union. By mobilizing themselves and registering as an official union, they will be able to work more powerfully towards land procurement and stronger legal protection, enabling women a voice in policy development and addressing inequality.

Info about Uganda

The northern region of Uganda is recovering from a 25+ year brutal rebel insurgency where the region was held hostage and its citizens brutalized, abducted, and invisible to their government and the world. Peace negotiations began with the LRA in 2007 and the region has been peaceful for 5 years. The community is now rebuilding and recovering their lives. Our program partners to re-build civil society and economic and social structures.
