Maternal Health in Afghanistan

Kabul, Afghanistan

Afghanistan has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world. In response, we are dedicated to building maternity hospitals, and equipping them with the latest medical equipment to save the lives of mothers and infants. With funding from ConnectHer, we can furnish a new 20-bed maternity ward.

Project Milestones

1.) The first $3,300 raised will be able to buy 10 modern maternity hospital bed frames and the mattresses for those frames.
2.) Once $5,400 have been raised, we can establish a 10-bed maternity ward complete with frames, mattresses, privacy screens, and 100 diaper/baby wipe kits for new mothers.
3.) Once we have raised $10,800, we can establish two 10-bed maternity wards complete with frames, mattresses, privacy screens, and 200 diaper/baby wipe kits for new mothers.

Since 2006, the Bayat Foundation has pursued our mission to build 10 maternity hospitals across Afghanistan, and the facilities we have built so far have treated 698,849 patients as of May 2013. In 2009 alone, 192,000 Afghan mothers gave birth in maternity facilities we support. Some of our accomplishments include a 50-bed maternity ward in Faryab province, a 20-bed maternity ward in Ningarhar province, and a newly renovated and modernized maternity ward in Rabia Balkhi Women's Hospital in Kabul.
