AUW Connecther Chapter-Film Club Equipment Fundraiser

Chittagong, Bangladesh

The Asian University for Women is an institution founded with a mission to provide an internationally recognised undergraduate program for women. The institution is geared towards empowering the new generation to strive towards higher education, and seeks to create critical thinkers who will be passionate and committed to their country and people. The mission of the university is inherently outward looking, seeing education as a process that can only be fully actualized when what is learned in the classroom can be integrated, translated and transformed outside of the classroom.

Currently, there is a high level of interest by students at AUW in film studies. In particular, many students are passionate about using filmmaking to bring to light social issues. So far, many individual students have succeeded in making their own documentaries and have had their work screened at the ConnectHer Girls Impact the World Festival. Another key interest of the students is to undertake collaborative film projects with students in other parts of the world and at other institutions. These projects would allow students to work on films that deal with issues of social and environmental concern around the world and to use the opportunity to share their ideas and innovations.

Project Milestones

The AUW Film Club, in collaboration with the ConnectHer Chapter, is positioning itself as the key support on campus for film projects. The available A/V equipment for students to use in producing film projects is at present very limited. In order to support students in working on individual film projects, group on-campus projects and collaborative film projects the AUW Film Club/ConnectHer Chapter needs to acquire a new set of equipment. We will need a total of $2000 USD to do so. The equipment is as follows:

700D DSLR Cameras (x2) (approximately 500 USD each)

Lapel microphones (x4)

Headphones (x4)

External Lights (x2)

Memory cards (32 GB or 64 GB at highest available write speed 80x) x4

Tripods x4

Supporting us in generating the funds needed for this equipment will not only allow students to continue to learn filmmaking but also help them to connect back to their community through their creative projects. Once the money is raised and the club commissions the films, all the links will be shared here.
