ConnectHER to Participate in UT-Austin Girl Day 2021!
Know a girl who loves Science, Technology, Math, and Engineering (aka STEM)? How about a girl interested in empowering other girls locally and around the world? If you answered yes to either of these questions (or if you are that amazing girl), then a visit to the ConnectHER virtual booths at University of Texas at Austin's Girl Day 2021 is for you.
Girl Day is an international annual event held during Engineers Week! Engineers Week is always the week in February that encompasses George Washington's birthday, February 22nd, as he is recognized as the nation's first engineer. Girl Day at UT Austin began in 2001 with only 92 participants and has grown to over 8,000 registered in 2020. This year Girl Day will be 100% virtual and FREE for all.
ConnectHER will participate by hosting four virtual "booths" for K-8th graders as well as offering a Women and Girls in Tech Film Screening for high school students. The booths will "show" original, student-made film from the ConnectHER Film Festival and be open from 12pm-4pm on the following days:
- 2/27/21, showing "Aya's Home" for the Girl Day theme of Designing for Communities, People and Animals
- 2/28/21, showing "Rural to Ramp" for the Girl Day theme of Innovating Food and Fashion
- 3/6/21, showing "The Ripple Effect" for the Girl Day theme of Exploring Earth and Energy
- 3/7/21, showing "3 Teams: 1 Story" for the Girl Day theme of Computing, Cybersecurity, Robotics
Booth visitors will also brainstorm ideas for their own films and learn details about how to submit to the ConnectHER Film Festival. Over 100 other student organizations, research centers, corporate partners and community organizations will also host Girl Day booths featuring grade-appropriate, hands-on activities led virtually by volunteer scientists, engineers, and STEM enthusiasts. Register here, boys, girls, parents, and educators are all welcome.
The ConnectHER film screening for high schoolers will run from 2/20/21 through 3/1/21. Students can watch anytime on their own devices. No registration needed.
ConnectHER is delighted to be part of this incredible event empowering girls and young women in Texas and around the world. Thank you University of Texas at Austin. Now come out and watch some films with us!
