Want to Save the Earth? Make a Film!

Published by Elaine Robbins on April 1, 2021

Earth Day will be here this month! What will you do for the earth this year?

Here’s one cool idea: Make a five-minute film about women and the environment that creates impact in the world. The ConnectHER Film Festival’s $2,500 Green IS Environmental Film Award, sponsored by the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, recognizes a short film that shines a light on an environmental issue that impacts women and girls globally—and focuses on a solution.

Do you know of a local woman environmental hero who inspires you? Or a woman-led sustainability initiative worth sharing?

Here are 3 ideas to get your brainstorming started:

1
Check out these amazing women environmental leaders. Who is the next Jane Goodall or Vanessa Nakate in your community? Many of this year’s Goldman Prize winners are women.
2
Get inspired by these visual and written word environmental storytellers.
3
Learn more about women and the environment at Project Drawdown, Women Deliver, and Global Greengrants.

For inspiration, check out two previous Green IS Award-winning films, The Ripple Effect and The Girls of the Desert.

The deadline is June 15, 2021, so you still have time to make your film!
